11 Days of Wildlife, Wonder, and Family Moments

This is more than just a holiday – it’s an unforgettable family adventure. Watch your children’s eyes light up as a giraffe appears just beyond the safari vehicle. Fall asleep to the sounds of the African night, knowing that a world of wildlife awaits in the morning. This safari is carefully designed for families: gentle travel pace, exciting activities, and plenty of time in nature – all with the comfort and safety you need.

Karibu sana! – A warm African welcome

Step off the plane and breathe in the fresh African air. Your journey begins in the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This fertile land is full of banana palms, avocado trees, and colorful village markets. From your family-friendly lodge, you’ll see the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro towering in the distance. Children can explore the gardens, play outdoors, and listen to the first nighttime calls of birds and frogs. It’s the perfect place to relax and settle into the rhythm of Africa.

Touch, feed, and explore!

Today, your family will discover real Tanzanian farm life. With a local guide, you’ll visit small farms with goats, chickens, rabbits, and more. Kids are welcome to help with milking, collecting eggs, or harvesting vegetables – a hands-on experience they’ll love. The rolling hills, green fields, and shady trees provide a peaceful and inviting setting. Optional guided nature walks can be arranged.

Red earth, endless savannah, and your first wildlife sightings

Your safari begins! Driving eastward, you’ll pass small villages, colorful roadside markets, and the striking Usambara Mountains rising in the distance. Mkomazi National Park welcomes you with classic African landscapes: dusty red tracks, twisted acacia trees, open plains and vast horizons. Soon, you’ll spot your first zebras, antelope, giraffes and exotic birds. Your camp is nestled inside the park – a peaceful spot under the stars, with the sounds of wildlife nearby.

Today’s safari brings you to the Mbula Rhino Sanctuary, where you’ll have the rare opportunity to observe endangered black rhinos up close. Mkomazi is home to many unique species: elegant oryx, long-necked gerenuks, colorful birds like the vulturine guineafowl, and even African wild dogs, which are being carefully protected and reintroduced here. You’ll drive through open savannah, past riverbeds and rocky hills, with towering views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the nearby Kenyan border. It’s a true safari off the beaten path.

After one last morning game drive, you head back toward Moshi. Along the way, the landscape shifts from savannah back to green farms and towns. In Moshi, you can explore lively markets, meet friendly locals, and see what everyday life is like in Tanzania. Children are often greeted with high fives, and may even get to try local snacks or see toys made from recycled materials.

From bean to brew – a journey through Tanzania’s coffee country

This morning, you walk through lush green hills, where small family farms grow some of Tanzania’s finest coffee. You’ll see how the beans are picked, peeled, roasted, and brewed over a fire – and of course, taste a fresh cup! After a traditional home-cooked lunch in a private garden, your forest walk takes you past towering ancient trees. A day full of smells, tastes, and laughter.

Mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and wildlife

Arusha National Park is small but packed with variety. Today’s game drive takes you through grassy plains, misty forests, sparkling lakes, and even a volcanic crater. Giraffes stroll through the bush, buffalo and warthogs graze quietly, and zebras often come very close to your vehicle. Kids will love spotting the fluffy colobus monkeys in the trees and pink flamingos on the Momella Lakes. Every turn in the road brings a new surprise!

Water birds, volcano lakes, and ancient knowledge

Glide across the peaceful waters of Lake Duluti, a hidden crater lake surrounded by thick forest. From your canoe, you can spot fish eagles, kingfishers, and maybe even monkeys peeking through the trees. Later, walk with a local Maasai guide, dressed in traditional red robes. They’ll teach you how to throw a spear, make a natural toothbrush from a tree branch, and which plants help with stomachaches. A fun and interactive way for your kids to learn how people live close to nature.

Descend into the vast Ngorongoro Crater – a 20 km wide, green-walled world that feels like a real-life Eden. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to over 25.000 animals, including lions, elephants, hippos, buffalo, and perhaps even rhinos. The views from the rim are breathtaking, and the landscapes below are just as magical – lakes, grasslands, forests, and marshes all packed into one unforgettable safari day. The wildlife is abundant and easy to spot – ideal for young explorers!

Tarangire is one of Tanzania’s most beautiful parks, and a perfect ending to your safari. The landscape is dotted with ancient baobab trees, their massive trunks standing like giants on the savannah. Elephants roam in huge family groups, often walking right beside your vehicle. You’ll also spot lions, zebras, baboons, and many species of antelope, especially near the Tarangire River, which never runs dry. It’s a place of wonder, color, and connection – ideal for family photos and lasting memories.

Enjoy a final early morning safari in Tarangire, then return to Arusha for your onward journey. For those not heading home yet, we’ll arrange your domestic flight to the island of Zanzibar – just a short hop away!

Turquoise seas, soft sand, and island adventures

Zanzibar is the perfect family beach destination after your safari. We’ll help you choose the best kid-friendly beach lodges, organize fun excursions (like dolphin watching, snorkeling, spice tours, or dhow sailing trips), and make sure your family’s trip ends in paradise. Whether you want total relaxation or more adventures, we’ll customize your Zanzibar program to fit your family’s style.
