Highlights

The national parks in the north of Tanzania offer perfect conditions for great game viewing. During our 3-day safari through the national parks of Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, you will not only encounter the “Big Five” elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and leopard, but also spectacular landscapes.

You will spend the night in comfortable safari tents – in permanent tented camps – and can spend the evenings relaxing on the veranda and listening to the sounds of the wilderness!

Your safari through the national parks in northern Tanzania begins today. Your safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha in the morning. Your first destination is Tarangire National Park, which is known for its herds of elephants and giant baobab trees. Here you will go on an extended game drive. The Tarangire River, which carries water all year round, attracts countless animals and makes for marvellous game viewing. In the dry season, the Tarangire is even richer in game than the Serengeti, as the herds come to the river to quench their thirst. The park has one of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania and herds of more than 30 animals are not uncommon. Over 100 mammal species live in Tarangire, including giraffe, impala, lion, Cape buffalo, zebra, hartebeest, eland, dik-dik and kudu, as well as over 500 bird species, including the largest bird in the world, the Maasai ostrich. The mighty baobab trees have a mystical effect and form a unique backdrop for an exciting day on safari.
We leave the park in the afternoon and drive to Karatu. On arrival at the lodge, you will have time to freshen up before ending the day with dinner under the stars and a good night’s sleep.

Meals: 1x packed lunch, 1x dinner
Early in the morning, we set off for one of the highlights of our safari: the Ngorongoro Crater. After a short drive, we reach the Ngorongoro Crater, which many call the 8th wonder of the world. The unique crater, also known as the “Garden of Eden”, has the second largest preserved caldera (collapse crater) in the world. It is unique due to the fact that it is home to its own ecosystem in a relatively small space. The crater has a diameter of 20 kilometres and is home to more than 25.000 larger mammal species and 100 bird species.
Enjoy the magnificent view from the crater rim (2286 metres)!
A steep track leads us down to the crater floor. Here you will find forests, swamps, rivers and the soda-filled Magadi Lake. In addition to lions, wildebeests, zebras, buffaloes, elephants and gazelles, there is a very good chance of spotting the rare black rhino here. After the 6-hour crater tour, we leave the crater and enjoy the unique view from the crater rim before returning to Karatu to your accommodation.

Meals: 1x breakfast, 1x packed lunch, 1x dinner
An extended game drive allows you to immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of Lake Manyara. Nestled in one of the most spectacular landscapes in northern Tanzania, this park lies at the foot of the East African Rift Valley. With its lush groundwater forests, open grasslands and unspoilt lake shores, the park is a scenic gem. Two thirds of the park is taken up by the alkaline lake, which is populated by tens of thousands of flamingos during the rainy season. A remarkable abundance of animals can be found here in a very small area. Large herds of buffalo, wildebeest and zebra congregate on the green plains.
The wide-spreading branches of the acacias are favoured haunts of the legendary tree lions. Elephants, giraffes, hippos and numerous antelope species can also be found here. Lake Manyara is also a bird paradise – over 400 species are represented here.
In the afternoon, drive back to Arusha, where your eventful safari ends.
