Ngorongoro Crater
Tarangire Nationalpark -
Ngorongoro Crater
Highlights
Short on time but in the mood for an exciting safari adventure? The Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire National Park are the destinations of this short and crisp safari. Experience the wildlife of Tanzania in these impressive game reserves. First you visit Tarangire National Park with its striking baobab trees and its impressive elephant population. Then it’s off to the famous Ngorongoro Crater, which is home to thousands and thousands of large animals. The chances of getting the famous “Big Five” in front of your lens are very high here! You will spend the night in a cozy lodge in the climatically pleasant Ngorongoro Highlands, surrounded by forests and green fields.
Your safari to two of the most outstanding national parks in northern Tanzania starts in the morning. You will be picked up by your safari guide from your accomodation in Moshi.
Your first destination is Tarangire National Park, which is famous for its herds of elephants and giant baobab trees. With the vehicle roof open, you will go on extended game drives through this protected area. The Tarangire River, which carries water all year round, attracts countless animals and offers wonderful game viewing opportunities. The park has one of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania and herds of more than 30 animals are not uncommon. There are over 100 species of mammal in Tarangire, including giraffe, impala, lion, Cape buffalo, zebra, hartebeest, eland, dik-dik and kudu, as well as over 500 species of bird, including the largest bird in the world, the Maasai ostrich. The mighty baobab trees have a mystical effect and form a unique backdrop for an exciting day on safari.
In the afternoon, you leave the park and drive towards the Ngorongoro Highlands to your lodge in the village of Karatu.
Accommodation: Lodge in Karatu

Early in the morning we set off for the famous Ngorongoro Crater. Once you arrive in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will enjoy a fantastic view from the crater rim over the huge caldera. The Ngorongoro Crater is a unique wildlife paradise and is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.
A steep, unpaved track leads down to the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater offers wild animals a paradisiacal habitat. On a safari here, practically all the major African animals can be spotted in just a few hours. In addition to lions, wildebeests, zebras, buffaloes, elephants and gazelles, there is a very good chance of spotting the rare black rhino. Over 20.000 large animals live in the crater itself. They can leave or enter the crater unhindered. Most of them always stay here, as there is no shortage of water or food. A true natural wonder, the likes of which can only be found in Africa.
After the six-hour crater tour, we return to Moshi in the afternoon.
