Your adventure begins early in the morning around 6:00 AM. Your Afrimine Tours safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, with picnic lunch boxes prepared for the day ahead.
From there, you will drive approximately 2.5 to 3 hours along scenic Tanzanian landscapes to the entrance of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Spectacular Crater Views
After entering the conservation area, you will drive up to the Ngorongoro Crater rim, where you can stop for a few minutes to enjoy the stunning panoramic view of the massive crater below. This viewpoint alone is considered one of the most spectacular landscapes in Africa.
Shortly after, your guide will carefully descend 600 meters into the crater floor, where an extraordinary wildlife safari awaits.
Thrilling Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is often called Africa’s natural wildlife sanctuary, offering one of the highest concentrations of animals in the world.
During your game drive, you may encounter:
Lions resting in the grasslands
Large herds of zebras and wildebeests grazing the plains
Majestic African elephants roaming the forested areas
Elusive leopards
Rare black rhinos, one of Africa’s most endangered species
Buffalo, hyenas, and jackals
Bird lovers will also enjoy spotting numerous bird species around the crater’s soda lakes, including flamingos, storks, geese, and vultures.
Picnic Lunch by the Hippo Pool
Around midday, you will stop for a scenic picnic lunch at the Ngoitoktok Swamp, one of the crater’s designated picnic sites. Here you can relax, enjoy your meal, and watch hippos cooling off in the nearby pool while surrounded by the incredible scenery of the crater.
Afternoon Wildlife Viewing
After lunch, continue exploring different areas of the crater floor for more afternoon game viewing opportunities. Each area of the crater has its own ecosystem, offering the chance to see new animals and landscapes throughout the day.
