After a delicious breakfast, your guide will pick you up. You will start your African day early by driving from Moshi over the lush slopes of Kilimanjaro to the village of Materuni, about 1.800m above sea level.
This area has the perfect mix of climate and soil to produce the best coffee in Africa. You will visit a coffee farm and learn how coffee is grown, harvested and processed, and you will try your hand at roasting and brewing a fresh cup of coffee the Chagga way.
The day begins with a walk to the Materuni waterfall, one of the most beautiful in the Kilimanjaro region. The tour continues to the coffee plantations of the local Chagga tribe, where the villagers will demonstrate some of the processes of coffee growing and processing and give you the opportunity to get involved in preparing the coffee beans and making your own coffee. Sing and dance with the Chaggas as they grind, roast and brew your coffee beans. When the coffee is ready, you will be served a local lunch.
