Your 3-day Tanzania safari begins in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.

After a short briefing from your safari guide, you depart towards Tarangire National Park, located about two hours from Arusha.

Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds and majestic baobab trees, which dominate the savannah landscape and create a spectacular setting for wildlife photography.

The park is crossed by the Tarangire River, the only permanent water source in the area. During the dry season, thousands of animals gather here to drink, making Tarangire one of the best wildlife viewing destinations in Tanzania.

Wildlife commonly seen in Tarangire includes:

  • elephants

  • lions

  • giraffes

  • zebras

  • Cape buffalo

  • impalas

  • hartebeests

  • elands

  • dik-diks

  • greater kudus

The park is also a paradise for bird lovers, with over 500 bird species, including the impressive Maasai ostrich, the largest bird in the world.

After an exciting game drive, you leave the park in the afternoon and travel to Karatu, a charming town located near the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Dinner and overnight at your comfortable safari lodge or tented camp.

Early in the morning, you depart for one of the highlights of any safari in Tanzania: the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater.

Often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, this massive volcanic caldera is one of the most unique wildlife areas on earth. The crater has a diameter of about 20 kilometers and forms a natural enclosure for an incredible concentration of wildlife.

From the crater rim at an altitude of 2,286 meters, you will enjoy stunning panoramic views before descending along a steep track to the crater floor.

The Ngorongoro ecosystem includes forests, grasslands, swamps, rivers, and the alkaline Magadi Lake, which attracts many birds including flamingos.

More than 25,000 large mammals live inside the crater, including:

  • lions

  • elephants

  • buffaloes

  • zebras

  • wildebeests

  • gazelles

The Ngorongoro Crater is also one of the best places in Tanzania to see the rare black rhino.

You will enjoy an extensive 6-hour game drive inside the crater before ascending back to the rim and returning to Karatu for dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

After breakfast, you continue your safari to Lake Manyara National Park, located at the base of the dramatic East African Rift Valley escarpment.

Although relatively small, this park is famous for its incredible biodiversity and stunning scenery. The landscape ranges from lush groundwater forests to open plains and the shores of the alkaline lake.

About two-thirds of the park is covered by Lake Manyara, which attracts large flocks of flamingos during the rainy season.

Wildlife often seen in Lake Manyara includes:

  • elephants

  • giraffes

  • buffalo

  • hippos

  • zebras

  • wildebeests

  • various antelope species

The park is also famous for its legendary tree-climbing lions, which can sometimes be spotted resting on the branches of large acacia trees.

Birdwatchers will be delighted by the over 400 bird species recorded in the park.

After an exciting game drive and lunch, you return to Arusha or Moshi in the afternoon, where your 3-day northern Tanzania safari comes to an end.
